Snider Hockey relies on the involvement and support of volunteers across the Delaware Valley. Volunteer opportunities are available at our five city rinks and the Flyers Skate Zone in Pennsauken, NJ. Volunteers assist our Site Coordinators with many tasks including but not limited to:

  • Assisting Site Coordinators and Coaches wVolunteer1Borderith executing practice plans.
  • Working one-on-one with Learn to Play participants.
  • Assisting with Academic tutoring and homework help.
  • Supporting Life Skills initiatives such as Nutrition Sessions, Physical Fitness Exercises, and Life Skills Activities.
  • Serving as a mentor and role model to Snider Hockey students.

Volunteer Process

All prospective volunteers can schedule an initial phone screening process with the Volunteer Coordinator. In addition, for the safety of our students, all prospective volunteers will be subject to a background check. Once the background check has been completed, the volunteer candidate will be presented with available service opportunities with Snider Hockey.

Volunteer Opportunities

On-Ice Volunteer

Volunteers must have previous hockey experience and be a minimum of 18 years old to apply for this opportunity. On-ice volunteers assist coaches and Site Coordinators with executing practice plans, setting-up drills, and working with struggling kids one-on-one. On-Ice Volunteers also assist kids with getting dressed in the locker room and tying skates.

Off-Ice Volunteer

No previous hockey experience required. Off-ice volunteers assist coaches and Site Coordinators with any off-ice duties in the locker room or the equipment closet. These tasks range from helping kids get dressed in the locker room, cleaning water bottles, and on-site equipment maintenance.


Academic Volunteer

Academic volunteers assist Academic Assistants at the rinks with tutoring and homework help. Academic Volunteers can help from a range of subjects from writing, reading, math, history, science, etc. Academic volunteers can also read with our elementary school-aged students during our Reading Buddies programs at the Laura Sims Skate House and Simons Recreation Center.

Life Skills Volunteer

Life Skills volunteers assist coaches and the Life Skills Coordinator with administering the nutrition curriculum to students participating in the Nutrition Education Program. Volunteers will help coaches and the Life Skills Coordinator prepare and clean up any materials necessary for snacks and/or activities.
