Players Return to Oshawa, Ontario to Participate in Keith Primeau's Hockey Camp
Building upon the success of last year’s trip, 29 ESYHF players were rewarded with a trip to Oshawa, Ontario to attend former Philadelphia Flyer Keith Primeau’s Durham Hockey Camp from August 9th to 16th. The players were selected after being evaluated by coaches and teachers for their dedication to hockey as well as their hard work in the classroom. The weeklong camp not only enhanced the on-ice skills of the students, but also taught them valuable life experiences.
“The trip gave me motivation to be a better player and a better person, and it helps to show my family and friends that I’m proud of what I do” said goaltender Thomas Brown.
ESYHF participants along with Mr. Snider gathered early Saturday morning, August 9, 2008 before embarking on their journey to Canada. Prior to leaving, the kids posed for pictures with Mr. Snider as they prepared to depart South Philadelphia.
The camp allowed the kids to meet and learn from current and former NHL players such as Keith and Wayne Primeau, and former Philadelphia Flyer Derek Smith. To supplement the learning experience, the students were treated to tours of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Niagara Falls, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the Oshawa Generals locker room at the General Motors Center.
In addition to two on-ice sessions each day, players participated in off-ice strength and conditioning activities, as well as classroom activities. The camp was a valuable learning experience for all those who attended as it was another successful trip to Oshawa for ESYHF.
